The warp threads feature unevenly dyed organic cotton yarn from Uganda, rope-dyed for a textured effect. The weft threads use organic cotton yarn blended with silk recycled from kimonos.
Kimonos once widely circulated but difficult to resell due to color, pattern, or condition were de-pillowed into cotton fluff using a de-pillowing machine. This fluff was then blended with cotton to create a new material. The unique silk hues appearing throughout the fabric create a rich, textured appearance and add a soft feel.
Uganda, the origin of the warp yarn, is one of the few countries that prohibits the cultivation of genetically modified crops. The pure material quality, unique to cotton grown in its pristine soil, is also appealing.
This is an original denim fabric developed through the fusion of Japanese kimono culture and high-quality organic cotton from Uganda.
